–>One More Time, Ayutthaya

I’ve stayed in Ayutthaya (the old capital of Thailand, 72 kilometers north of Bangkok) for some time when I felt that Bangkok life was ‘too fun’ for me already. Phra Nakhon Sri Ayutthaya, its official name, is completely different from the swinging Big Mango. Its nightlife is subdued, the expats are rarely seen out and food is sold mostly in markets, as opposed to Bangkok’s famed streetfood.

One thing you’ll love about Ayutthaya is its history. Every nook and corner is filled with it. I have been to most of the ancient ruins the city boasts of many times, but I would always go to remind me that Bangkok is not all there is to see in Thailand on weekends. Of course, it’s a different thing when shopping and partying are discussed.

Here are some of the photos I took from my last visit in February:

To get to Ayutthaya from Bangkok, I take the van from Victory Monument. The van station is reachable by BTS Victory Monument Station. Just take Exit 3 upon alighting the train and walk down to the left of the footbridge. The travel will just take an hour. Vans operate from 6am to 6pm.

You can also take the railway train from Hua Lamphong train station, which is reachable by MRT (subway). This is said to be the cheapest and most scenic way of reaching Ayutthaya from Bangkok.

By bus, you should go to the Northern Terminal (Mo Chit) where buses come and go in 20 minutes’ interval. The terminal is near the Mo Chit BTS Station.
