To be the Duke of Windsor
No, I am not talking about lording over those huge estates across the United Kingdom and having the best summer hunts in Balmoral. Any male who has read or heard about elegant and classy dressing would come up with Edward VIII, Duke of Windsor (who abdicated his crown and throne to marry Wallis Simpson), as his style figure.
We owe him a great deal for giving us the Windsor Knot (yes, that doublehand), the tartan hunting suits, and the ‘Dress Soft’ approach. He truly is the epitome of classic elegance.
Key pieces are: double-breasted suit, brogues and velvet slippers, patterns (plaid and tartan, primarily), the Windsor tie, of course, and the occasional vests and waistcoats.
(PS: Just last week, Our Queen, Madonna, has written a letter to the Queen of England, Queen Elizabeth II, to ask for her perspectives about her uncle, The Duke of Windsor. Madonna is directing a film about Edward. Now aren’t we excited about that?)
